QiXi was a multimedia performance spectacle performed throughout Grant Park in celebration of the Chinese Valentine’s day. The story revolves around Niulang the cowherd, and Zhinu the celestial princess, whose forbidden love caused the Emperor of Heaven to separate them but for one day a year, when they reunite over a bridge formed by Magpies…and thus the creation of the Milky Way. The spectacle was performed by musicians, Peking Opera performers, Martial artists and Lion Dancers.
